Preserve Our Quality of Life

Preserve our quality of life in Newport Beach. Our coastal resources, attractive residential communities, and economic base are our greatest treasure. We need to protect our natural environmental gifts focusing on our beaches, bay and ocean, which are a major source of pride and occasional concern to District 1 residents. We need an imaginative and supportive City Hall - no longer a presence in District - to encourage balanced, thoughtful economic revitalization on the Peninsula. My primary focus will be to influence General Plan elements which have a favorable economic impact on Balboa Peninsula areas, including the commercial centers that have been in decline despite some heroic efforts of a few far-sighted entrepreneurs: Lido Village, Balboa Village, Cannery Village and McFadden Square.

  • JWA SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT: We must work to protect the JWA Settlement Agreement and the all-important curfew. As the economy rebounds, passenger traffic continues to increase. JWA now has Customs that qualifies the airport for international flights. We must remain vigilant in the protection of our city from economic forces that want to expand the airport.
  • HARBOR IMPROVEMENT: The Harbor is the jewel of our region that makes Newport Beach a unique city. All corners of the city derive value and benefit from the Harbor. A comprehensive Harbor management plan requiring continual dredging should be a priority. We shouldn’t wait for boats to bottom-out before removing silt. The Harbor has become a step-child to flashier and more glamorous projects like City Hall.
  • PRESERVE OUR QUALITY OF LIFE: We must work together to protect the environmental and natural gifts that distinguish our City. I support:
    • The highest standards for environmental quality for water and air
    • Responsible development in coastal areas according to the 2006 General Plan
    • Planned capital improvement of street infrastructure, parks and facilities
    • Preservation of our natural resources--ocean, bays, harbor, beaches and open space
    • The protection of the integrity of our residential neighborhoods through land use and family-friendly zoning and compatible mix of uses in adjacent commercial areas
    • Revitalization of Lido Village and other commercial areas to be attractive, vital destinations for Residents and Visitors.
